Nick Cheung (Election) takes up the challenging role of the conflicted police officer, bringing out the confusion and agony of a man On the Edge. Francis Ng and Anthony Wong, who also appears with Nick Cheung in the long-anticipated Johnnie To movie Exiled, offer wonderful supporting performances. Herman Yau's solid direction is, of course, crucial to this tension-filled drama. Herman Yau has made many under-the-radar low-budget movies, but some of his works, such as the graphical The Untold Story (also starring Anthony Wong) and the humanitarian From the Queen to the Chief Executive, have received much critical acclaim. On The Edge is another serious, quality film from Yau.
